The formulas
Weighted average = Σ(mark × weight) ÷ Σ(weights completed).
Mark needed on the final = (target × 100 − points earned so far) ÷ final weight. With 79.7% on work worth 60% and a final worth 40%, getting 80% overall needs (8,000 − 4,782) ÷ 40 = 80.5% on the final.
Tips
- Marks can be percentages or fractions like 18/20.
- Weights don’t have to add up to 100 yet — the current grade uses only what’s been marked.
- Some courses drop the lowest quiz or require a minimum on the final to pass; check your syllabus.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a weighted grade?
Multiply each mark by its weight, add them up, and divide by the total weight of the work marked so far.
What if the weights don’t add up to 100%?
The current grade is based on what’s been completed. For the final-exam calculation, any remaining coursework is assumed to be earned at your current average.
Can I enter marks like 45/50?
Yes. Fractions are converted to percentages automatically.
